I've started knitting. Actually, I've knit for many, many years, but always flat knitting - scarves and blankets, always something with right angles. And also, always in Garter stitch, which is straight knitting back and forth. Then, a couple of months ago I bought a book at Target for a dollar, "Knitting for Dummies" and learned the purl stitch. Suddenly, new vistas of knitting possibilities opened up before me. I knit a few blankets using both the knit and purl stitches, but began wondering about how to knit three dimensional things like hats, socks and (scary, scary) sweaters.
I hit the web looking for info on what my next step should be. I came across some knitting podcasts, it sounds odd but I thought maybe I could learn the lingo. After listening to a few of them I found the "Knit Picks" podcast by Kelley Petkun to be informative and easy to follow. She recommended a book called, "The Sweater Workshop" by Jacqueline Fee. It sounded like a good starting place for me because it has a project called the Sweater Sampler which incorporates many stitches and techniques found in making a sweater in the round and is supposed to help you understand why some things are done and make it possible for you to design your own sweater. I love that. I have been working on it since March 30th and last night I knit a little tab that sticks out from the work; my first piece of knitting with something sticking out! I also made a buttonhole. Cool!
It is definitely stretching my brain to think in different ways, which I love. It is slow going though. My goal is to make some presents for Christmas, seven months from now, hats or socks, we'll see how it goes, but I'm excited.

Happy Birthday Teeri!!!
I probably shouldn't post during nap-time. I'm way too whiney.
September 12th is my precious son, Teeri's birthday. He is 28. He's old. ;-)
He was due on the 3rd, that's nine days ago, coincidentally, the calendar that year was the same as this year, and the third was Labor Day, I still get a chuckle out of that and that memory went to the permanent storage part of my brain, because I can still hear the nurse telling me the date and still see the calendar stuck to the counter top, with the red 3 in September and remember asking the nurse why it was red, and being absolutely delighted when she told me, "Labor Day". She was not so amused, I'm sure it happened many times each year to her but it happened only once to me.
Anyway, at my appt. the week before Labor Day, the baby, in those days we didn't know the gender before the birth, was breach, head-up, but not dropped and I was told that if it didn't turn before I went into labor, I would probably have a Cesarean. I did not have to make another appt. because I was due in a few days, so I just went home and waited, and waited, and answered the phone with,"No baby, yet.". It seemed to me that Trevor moved a lot before he was born, but I had nothing to compare to and "a lot" is relative , but, on the 8th or 9th I watched and felt the baby do a slow, steady somersault. Very weird! He was born at 6:35 am after 7 hours of labor; not bad for a first baby.
Teeri was, and is, one of my favorite people on earth from the second he was born. He is an "old soul", he always knows the right thing to say and do and is goes out of his way to be respectful. He is hilarious, his humor is silly and dry at the same time, but rarely at the expense of others. He is hard working and ambitious, he put himself through college at a top-ranked school by working as a waiter, where his personable and entertaining nature helped him with tips.
May your 29th year be filled with love and successes.

Loud Morning
It's been a rough morning. Lots of crying from the three youngest, especially the youngest, AD, who is really, really loud, and lots of running and screaming from the three oldest. Jeeri came down at one point as I was cleaning up the painting, (washing hands, washing the table, getting the paint out of reach) and AD was in full voice, and entertained the troops until I could get to AD, who was poopy, hungry, grumpy and tired. We managed to fit in - breakfast, outside time, painting with tempra, music, dancing, twirling, playing with cars, dishes, hats, beads, blocks, books, balls and fishing poles, 8 diaper changes, 6 potty trips, lunch, clean-up time and washing hands 18 times, not counting my own.
They are all sleeping, now and it is quiet. EW left to go to his 3 y.o. check-up and I don't think he will be back, but he might be. My back and neck hurt, but I already did took my meds.
